Interaction Design
Hej! We are the Interaction Design Team (IxD) at KTH. We create novel interactive technologies and services starting from feminist theory, somaesthetics, sustainability, and critique.

Interaction Design Research that spans pleasure, health, wellbeing, and equality
Much of our design-led research draws from somaesthetics leading to interactions that enrich an individual’s sensitivity to enjoyment and appreciation of their own somatics. A second key value that is found in our design work is feminism – that is embedding interactions within our prototypes that give voice to experiences and perspectives that have historically been silenced, and that enable alternative ways of knowing.
Some of our current focuses, technologies, methods, techniques, and areas of HCI we engage with are: new ethics for autonomous systems; feminist technologies for intimate health; new interaction techniques; technologies that connect us to our bodies, others, and the world around us, physical artefacts for touching the body which take into account different abilities and capacities, haptic technologies and touch design, self-tracking and biodata, Research through Design (RtD), critical computing
Courage, feminist, boundary-blurring, playful, nurturing, risky, flourishing, growth, messiness, humanness, openness, weird, safe and secure
As a group of researchers we strive to create a safe and secure research environment for our creative and courageous research. We value our humanness and openness and an ability to flourish in our messiness. We learn from each other and support one another in each of our successes. We work together and try not to compete despite the inherent competitiveness of an academic environment. We meet every other week to talk about IxD topics big and small, and at least once a semester meet for an evening pizza and karaoke session 🍕. We recognise that good research needs time, and not every deadline matters.
Our design work starts from familiarising ourselves with physical-digital materials in an explorative yet playful way. We see design as a process of exploring the aesthetic affordances of materials to arrive at innovative prototypes – where materials can be physical materials, such as fabric, yarn, biomaterials, or wood, or digital materials, such as data, algorithms, sensors, actuators, or wireless connectivity. We have also curated a space for these practices, check out our feminist design makerspace .
The team is in charge of several interaction design courses at KTH. Most of our team members work together in an open office space called the IxD Jungle, on the top floor of the main building at KTH Valhallavägen, Lindstedtsvägen 5.
